Barack Obama, erstwhile symbol of racial reconciliation, wants Don Imus to be fired and has “no intention of returning” as a guest on his show.

Evidently racial reconciliation is not an all-inclusive project - looks like Obama’s big tent is not quite big enough for older white guys who raise millions for charities, raise money for medical care for our wounded troops, and sometimes say stupid things for which they have apologized.

You mean you believed all that about Obama? Silly you.

Bizzyblog sums it up nicely:

• Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson were in line for a major call-out over their vitriolic rush to judgment in the Duke non-case, and have mostly dodged the, uh, rap. The Imus situation was too convenient an opportunity for them to ignore. Given a choice between a) emphasizing a one-year nightmare built on lies and race-baiting of the worst kind, and b) dragging out the Imus story by trying, and succeeding, in sending him to TV/radio oblivion, they knew which one Old Media, whose hands are by no means clean in the Duke non-case (and whose minions are desperately spinning their complicity in the shameful hysterics that arose from it), would run with.
• The fact that there is some pushback on Sharpton’s overreach and sordid past history (noted by Lorie Byrd at Wizbang) doesn’t change the validity of the previous point. The bottom line is that the Duke non-case is a distant second-fiddle story. Al’s mission is accomplished.
• Imus is probably wishing that XM and Sirius weren’t on the verge of merging.
• Someone ought to post a vid of Imus’s complete remarks at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner roughly 10 years ago. Viewers will be left wondering why his remarks last week became the tipping point.

Then there’s the matter of the name of Whoopie’s production company. Can only black women degrade other black women?

Snoop clears things up for us:

Snoop Dogg has helpfully explained that his use of the term “ho” differs from that of Mr. Imus: “First of all, we ain’t no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them [expletive] say we in the same league with them. . . . [Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We’re talking about ho’s that’s in the ‘hood that ain’t doing [expletive], that’s trying to get a [expletive] for his money. These are two separate things.”

So if Imus was black and was talking about black girls in da hood, that’d be alright I guess. Whatever.

Also contrary to what you read here, Sharpton et. al. are not going to waste their credibility going after the Right-wing talk radio crowd. In schoolyard terms, that would be like going from picking on an easy target to taking on the roughest toughest gang on the playground. Because of Imus’ past actions this gang didn’t lift much of a finger to help him, but they will close ranks around one of their own (except maybe savage, but he’s insane).
