Senator Craig Resigning

HT to AOL - CNN Reports.

GOP sources with knowledge of the situation told CNN’s Dana Bash that the Republican National Committee was poised to take the extraordinary step of calling on Craig to resign but held off.

The RNC put the move on hold, the sources said, because top party leaders have received indications that Craig himself is preparing to step down.

This is overall a good thing, but I wouldn’t shed a tear if they got serious enough about other, more serious forms of corruption and booted Ted Stevens.

  1. [...] is reporting that Idaho Sen. Larry Craig will likely resign soon. More on that at Nixguy and from Ryan at Buckeye State Blog, who’s got a well-considered post: I find it quite sad [...]

  2. All for touching a guys shoe while taking a crap. I’m glad there’s no one else in Congress that has done worse, like faux land deals, giving gov’t contracts to a spouse, steeling 900 FBI files, and accepting bribes and hiding the money in a freezer. I’m sure they would be drummed out, too.

  3. Joe, ya need to understand. The left has no morals or scruples. Therefore, anything they do is OK!

  4. Gary,

    Oh, I understand perfectly.

What would be said if The Dispatch investigated Strickland’s sexual history, like the Idaho Statesman has Craig’s under remarkably similar circumstances. We’d all be outraged, but everyone seems to be giving that MSM outlet a pass. I give both Strickland and Craig credit for trying to live a normal life - if they are gay - or at least keeping it under control.

The resignation bar was raised in the 90’s for the patron saint of political corruption and sexual predation. The strained defenses we heard for and from the Clinton Mafia then, are ridiculed now by the same sycophants when the irony and hypocrisy is pointed out. Yet, there is real chance that the “consigliere” will become the Dona and she and her capi will be back in the White House despite all the harangues by the sheeple last year about needing to eliminate the “culture of corruption.”

  5. Yeah! Blah, blah, blah! … It’s all the fault of the “left” that Larry Craig got caught (was he REALLY taking a crap? … that IS disgusting! … how do YOU know for sure?) … Just like all those “hippies” caused Nixon to do the Watergate bit! … Recirculating unproven gossip about Ted Strickland, or whining endlessly about Clinton’s “Lewinsky” (or even Newt or Rudy’s multiple extramarital romps) doesn’t excuse the GOP idiots who allowed hypocritical perverts like Craig, Vetters, or Foley to be elected to the House or U.S. Senate … I agree that Jefferson (William, NOT Thomas) was a Democrat who stole money and should be booted out too! I also agree that Gary Studds should be in jail with Foley for molesting pages … What’s that you say - Foley ISN’T in jail? … Barney Frank is gay and once knew a male prostitute … So what? … If we’re going to jail people based on who they know, this blogsite would be empty … Once again, I have to remind you that being “gay” isn’t illegal (though some zealous evangelical bigots want to go back to the old Oscar Wilde days when gays were put in jail for being gay) … Being a “pervert” - gay OR straight - IS illegal, and deserves punishment, regardless of party affiliation … A “pervert” in my view, is someone (like that rock star who flushed his career down a public toilet where he went to get it “on” or “off”) who commits lewd acts in public, harasses or harms unwilling victims, or molests kids … Oh yeah - Craig was just trying to help the undercover cop tie his shoe … Ha! … Like a lot of Americans these days, I get tired of all the B.S. and “doublestandarditis” on BOTH sides … Don’t we have any honest “Mr. Smith’s” out there to serve in the U.S. Congress? … We DID, but now he’s Governor of Ohio! … Final thought - just get rid of Craig and stop trying to make it a partisan issue … THAT sort of hypocrisy - i.e. trashing Clinton, but letting Rudy and Newt slide - is why many “liberals” like myself are rubbing it in (NOT a good choice of words there) …Let’s just say that BOTH sides have their faults and move on … We ALL need to “do better next time” in picking those who are supposed to be the nation’s “leaders” … THAT”S why we need to elect a woman!

  6. Joe - “Steeling” FBI files is a damn good idea … That way they’ll be safe from Al-A|Qaeda … Can we just stick with stuff that’s actually been proven in court … For instance, the “faux land deal” you speak of (”Whitewater” I presume) turned out to be pretty small potatoes (how DO you spell that again?) and Hillary was exhonerated (I suppose now you’ll say the Prosecutor was a Democrat who was biased in her favor) … In Watergate, Iran-Contra, Abu Ghraib, etc. (THAT’S really what this is all about, isn’t it?) GOP administration people WERE found guilty based on solid evidence … How about giving no-bid government contracts to one’s former employer or other forms of war-profiteering in Iraq? … Some future prosecutor’s going to be awfully busy!

Thanks for proving my point, Fred.

  8. I second the motion on Ted Stevens … It IS time to clean house on BOTH sides of the aisle and throw out any legislator who takes bribes or kickbacks from corrupt lobbyists! … You forgot to mention Clinton’s pardon of Mark Rich - I consider THAT far more sleazy than whatever he may have done with Monica …

  9. That’s funny. Making a foreign delegation wait while Monica did to him something Hillary hadn’t done since Watergate was the only thing I liked about Clinton.
