Bill Quick has been on fire, and I didn’t want to miss these selections from his last few postings:
on the Media:
Any Democrat candidate will destroy John McCain in the general election. McCain’s single biggest asset has been the free ride the liberal mainstream media has given “maverick” (meaning he sticks it to those awful conservatives) McCain. Once the choice is between Republican nominee McCain and Democrat nominee Obama (or Hillary), the liberal media will turn on him and savage him. And, as I have posted elsewhere, there are a myriad of ways he can be savaged.
Just one selection from The list of Infamy:
This is a scheme cooked up by McCain and two other liberals to permit US drugs exported to Canada to be reimported to the US at the controlled prices Canadians pay for those drugs. The libertarian Cato institute, nominally a fan of free-er trade, hates this idea
And from A Deal Was Made:
These GOP strategists were also aware that other demographic trends were moving away from them. The aging of America will move tens of millions of Boomers into the group of net receivers of government largess, primarily Social Security and Medicare. That makes them prime territory for the left, no matter what their political tendencies might have been during their productive working years.
In short, the GOP establishment perceives the entire nation moving leftwards, and a long time ago made the decision to move the GOP to the left in order to keep in step with the culture at large. George Bush was the first of the “new breed” of GOP establishment characters to achieve the White House, with his doctrine of “compassionate” (liberal) conservatism. And it seemed to work. At least, it kept him in the White House for two terms, if only with razor thin wins each time.
I don’t know if I necessarily buy it all, but I do think it explains reasonably well why I detest McCain beyond all reason on such a fundamental level.
Yeah, yeah, MDS, I got it bad.
