From the Dispatch:
Investigators descended on Dann’s offices in the Rhodes Tower shortly after 11 this morning, defying Dann’s legal arguments that they had no right to investigate his office.
A state trooper was seen hauling video equipment from the attorney general’s office shortly after noon today. Authorities also reportedly locked down computers operated by Dann and about a dozen of his top assistants.
In all, about a dozen investigators coordinated by Inspector General Thomas P. Charles swooped down on the attorney general’s office. A Dann spokesman said the investigators had not seized any documents as of 12:30.
That’s usually a pretty good sign it’s over. Ever see the movie “Boiler Room”? That’s how I imagine it going down. Naugle reports that Dann had an escort from the building, Pho liveblogs and Jill chastises Kevin DeWine for overreaching.
I have to agree with Jill on this one. Let it go Mr. DeWine. The Democrats did not circle the wagons (at least once the jig was up). You may be right that their is more here to meet the eye, but any attempts to pin this on the ODP will look like a huge political overreach. Like it or not, we are not past the stink of the Taft administration, so from a purely practical standpoint, let it go.
Hi Dave - and look, the thing is, most of us expect that there will be some surprises turned up - let’s not be daft about that. But again, Ohioans really really really aren’t idiots - there are some mistakes that truly happen because of the efforts of individuals who are trying to fool us and fool themselves. We need to think about what is reasonable to expect of ourselves as voters and of our elected officials.
It was reasonable to expect Dann to not abuse our trust, it was reasonable to expect that when voters came to feel that he had - regardless of whether they are Dem or not, he had to go. And it’s reasonable to look at the actions available to the people who could put pressure on him to leave - so as not to disgrace ALL of Ohio, not just blue people, and say, they pretty much did everything they could do, with someone who did not want to admit the extent of the damage, in a very short time - less than two weeks. Come on.
Seriously? No doubt DeWine has some leadership stuff in hiim - but he needs some training. He is going to flame out fast and not be effective. ALL Ohioans are sick of that stuff - not just Dems not just GOP.
Thanks.
[...] solidly conservative Ohioans recommend against the scorched-earth tactics Ohio Republican Party Kevi… is gesticulating [...]
Where is Bob Bennett? He is much more adept in these situations. DeWine continues to come off as clumsy.
I love it when the liberals start pining for Bob Bennett…
