Schmidt Hits Malariotherapy.

Jeff takes offense.

This is a patently false statement. Dr. Wulsin was paid by the Cincinnati-based Heimlich Institute as a consultant in 2004 to review the literature in studies conducted by others — she did not “participate” in the studies and she was fired as a consultant when she turned in a draft report that found the procedure to have no basis in medical science.

Moreover, as reported on this blog last week, Dr. Wulsin met with the State Medical Board of Ohio in April and was informed that there was no merit to the medical ethics complaint filed against her in connection with the Heimlich Institute literature review — a complaint long touted by right wing bloggers as indicating that there was substance to their allegations against Wulsin — and no further action would be taken with respect to it.

This issue is not dead as long as Wulsin continues to stonewall questions about her involvement.  I’m not fully up on this, but I do know this, facts are facts and are not changed by the state ethics board.  Vic Wulsin is exonerated in the same way OJ Simpson was declared innocent.  In the eyes of the law only.

Which is probably correct as far as it goes.  (legally)  But ethically and politically this is still a mess for Wulsin and will remain so.  I’m still waiting for one, just one Enquirer article.  See more at Bizzy and the Dean of Cincinnati*.

Oh and Bill Sloat** is ticked off as well and calls her out for “prevarication”.  That’s pretty brazen for a guy who I caught redhanded trying to recycle a hilarious plagiarism smear.

*Keep in mind that the Beacon is no friend of Jean Schmidt.

**Like Malia Rulon, Bill is anti-Schmidt.

UPDATE

Tim weighs in:

See, Nix, when a process of law decides a matter, it’s decided.  I don’t know how you get OJ Simpson out of this, but when a wingnut decides to jump into the fray with such idiocy, I jump in to point the idiocy out.

Well, I thought I was making a rather obvious point about legal systems attempt to make a determination versus the underlying reality.  Ideally they are the same, but we know they are not.  OJ, remember?  Or do you really think that jury verdict rendered him innocent other than just in the eyes of the law?  Heck I even stipulated that as far as an ethics complaint goes, the ruling is probably correct based on what we know.

But like Tim, I haven’t investigated thoroughly, but I do know this, two bloggers I respect, one conservative, one independent, think this is a serious issue, and two politicians, one Democrat and one Republican, concur.  So yeah, the book is not closed here, methinks.

  2. Like OJ Simpson.

    Good analogy.

  3. Has anyone seen the OMA report that they claim to have? Why was the statement only released to a looney left blogger? We know that Bill Sloat doesn’t need any proof to spin a story. You know when your driving the car involved in a bank robbery and a killing your going to go to jail even though you didn’t get out of the car. Sorry Vic, your guilty.
