In a sweep through the swing states of Michigan and Wisconsin, Mr McCain was met by the kind of near-hysterical crowds previously seen only at campaign events for his Democratic rival, Barack Obama.More than 6,000 exultant supporters turned out on Friday night in Sterling Heights, a town in Michigan’s Macomb County, home of the Reagan-Democrats, the small town blue collar voters who propelled Ronald Reagan to the White House in the 1980s and hold the key to victory this year.
Very telling that the first stop is in Michigan. This is one of the few places where the Democrats are on defense. And in Macomb county no less, home of the Reagan Democrat. Michigan has near 10% unemployment rates under a Democratic governor and this has been going on for almost the entire decade. They might just be ready to try something new.
And yes she’s stealing thunder from both McCain and Obama. From Jay Leno’s monologue last night:
Sarah Palin wasn’t too happy with John McCain’s speech. She’s thinking of dropping him from the ticket.
