Zack Space, Obama and Coal

From a Fred Dailey Release:

Hey, Zack! You Still Support Obama 100 Percent?

Because He Said He Wants to “Bankrupt” the Coal Industry

Mt. Vernon, OH – Barack Obama sure is comfortable with San Franciscans. First, he told them that rural people - like those in the 18th Congressional District – cling to their guns and religion. Now, we’ve learned that he told them he would “bankrupt” the coal industry.

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” (Newsbusters.org)

And who can forget Joe Biden’s infamous words at a rally near Toledo in September:

“We’re not supporting clean coal. Guess what? China’s building two every week … two dirty coal plants. It’s polluting the United States, and it’s causing people to die. … China’s gonna burn 300 years of bad coal unless we figure out how to clean their coal up and it’s going to ruin your lungs and there’s nothing we can do about it. No coal plants here in America. Build them – if they’re going to build them – over there and make them clean because they’re killing you.”

And then there’s Zack Space:

“I make no bones about it: I support Obama. I am fully supportive of him.” Columbus Dispatch, 8/20/2008

“This is disgraceful,” said 18th Congressional District candidate Fred Dailey. “Our coal jobs are the lifeblood of our economy. We’re already struggling. We can’t afford for our mines to go bankrupt, but that’s clearly what will happen in an Obama-Biden administration with Zack Space’s blessing. One of Zack Space’s very first votes in Congress was against clean-coal technology. He’s not taken a single vote during his time there that will create a single drop or watt of American energy. He’s voted against drilling. And he voted against our jobs.”

“Zack Space should immediately denounce Obama and tell him that it’s not coal that’s killing us: it will be the radical environmental policies and job-killing tax hikes that Obama will enact.”

  1. “But this notion of no coal, I think, is an illusion. Because the fact of the matter is, is that right now we are getting a lot of our energy from coal. And China is building a coal-powered plant once a week. So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon. And how can we sequester that carbon and capture it. If we can’t, then we’re gonna still be working on alternatives.”
    Barack Obama.

Hail Mary desperation…and naturally, a lie.

  2. So again, does this mean that Dailey doesn’t support McCain and Palin who also plan on instituted the kind of cap and trade scheme to regulate greenhouse gas emissions like Obama was discussing?

After all, three years ago, George Voinvich was on the Senate floor protesting that John McCain’s energy plan would be the death of coal industry.

  3. As discussed in a previous post, there are significant differences in McCain’s cap and trade program (grandfathering).

  4. Not according to George Voinovich there aren’t. He says McCain’s proposal would kill the coal industry.
