New twist in the 2nd District race?

New twist in the 2nd District race?

Anderson Township Trustee Russ Jackson is so opposed to having Pat DeWine as the Republican party’s nominee for Congress that he is circulating petitions to run as an independent should DeWine win Tuesday’s GOP primary.

Jackson is especially upset with DeWine because DeWine is running for Congress only months after being elected to the Hamilton County commission.

“He said that county commissioner was the job he always wanted and when he gets there, he turns around and runs for the first office that comes open,” Jackson said. “This is a question of character for me.”

Jackson, a Republican, said that if the candidate he is supporting, Tom Brinkman Jr., wins Tuesday, he’ll step aside.

“But if DeWine wins, I would run as an independent Republican to give people another choice,” said Jackson.

DeWine is becoming quite notable for the amount of animosity he is generating. Conservatives don’t like him because of his dad. Religious folk don’t like him because of his divorce.

And now he’s pissed off the local establishment Republicans, by not “doing the time” in the lower posts before jumping up.

If Russ Jackson carries out his threat he will be likely to win I think, this is going to be a low turnout election. But despite what the DeWine campaign thinks, and their heavy financing, they are not doing too well. As evidenced by their recent run of anti-Brinkman ads.

Also, in the same article, some great news for Brinkman. The Club for Growth is spending some serious change on him. He has name recognition, but no cash. This will help

While the Schmidt campaign tries to fight off the damage from the sales tax vote, Brinkman is more than willing to accept the Club for Growth’s praise - although he points out that he had no idea the ad campaign was coming. “I’m proud of my record of voting against taxes,” Brinkman said. “So hooray for me.”
