This would certainly shake things up in Michigan.
Now that pursuit of the 2006 Republican nomination for governor has taken what is likely to be final form — businessman Dick DeVos a prohibitive favorite (barring an unlikely challenge from risk-averse Congresswoman Candice Miller) over two relatively unknown state lawmakers, Sen. Nancy Cassis and Rep. Jack Hoogendyk — it seems like a good time to talk about another candidate who almost certainly won’t get in the race and, if he did, more than almost certainly could not win.
We refer, of course, to semi-famous guitarist and hunter Ted Nugent.
One can never be quite sure how seriously to take anything that comes out of Uncle Ted’s mouth, but he recently told interviewers he was “getting real close to deciding to run” for governor. That follows a vow made during the 2002 campaign to run in ‘06 if Democrat Jennifer Granholm was elected.
Ok so that’s either a social conservative Republican who made billions on a barely legal pyramid scheme, a profane amoral libertarian gun nut rock star, or a liberal Democrat.
I do believe I’d have to go with the gun nut rock star on that one. Interesting.
Debbie Schlussel is not a fan of Nugent:

It would appear to be justified.
You should be a fan of debbieschlussel.com if you are going to keep up with Michigan politics.

thx for the tip.
As a resident of Michigan I would have to say I am not too pleased with any of the candidates for Michigan. The current governor has run us to the bottom of the employment number for the entire nation. Get that there is less percentage unemployed in states such as Alabama and Alaska than in Michigan. Way to go moron. This is what we get for hiring a Canadian to run our state. The woman is a complete idiot and says and does some of the dumbest stuff I have seen any politician ever do.
As for the Republican front runner, if I get accosted by one more Amway freak in the book store telling me about how he runs his own businesses and won’t say that it is “Alticor” until I verbally assault him for being so ashamed of the life that he is living and the crap he is trying to pedal that he can’t say the real name of the scheme he is pushing……..ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I am going to deck the next fool that tries that garbage on me. And they always attack me in the computer book section of Barnes and Nobel, must be a strategy they have been taught from their you’re a moron tapes they buy from the you’re a moron rah rah meetings they have. And then to top it all off Dick is soley responsible for the sad shape that my favorite Arena Football team is in. He fired the hall of fame coach and all the top players including the league’s most consistent quarterback because he wanted to take the team in a new direction. Understand this is after the coach he fired had taken them to and won the championship game and made them a perennial playoff team. Not sure why you would want to change that direction but Dick did. So he hired a coach that never had a winning record and filled the roster with never will bes and has beens and they have been the worst team in the league. Nice to see Dick has no idea how to surround himself with good people or how to win. So in this instance with out the power of government Dick has already made my life worse, I can only imagine what this fool would do with power.
As far as Terrible Ted Nugent, please no. We will be the laughing stock of the nation like MN was when they hired a pro wrestler. Lets say you are business looking for a place to expand your factory to. Are you going to choose a state in which Ted Nugent was elected or a state where the citizens had better choices to vote for? My only hope is that we did have Jeffrey Figer (crazy lawyer for Dr. Jack Kavorkian) run for governor once, and he was beaten so badly at the polls that we have not heard another peep from that fool in a long time.
In the end Michigan will loose again at the polls. I love my state but is definitely on a downward slide. If the current governor gets her way by giving tax breaks to the manufactures at the expense of all the small businesses, retail and service industry, we will see unemployment soar to record highs in this state and people will leave in droves. I remember when Blanchard (may he rot in hell) was the governor of the state and destroy our economy so much that the popular hats and shirts for the state said “Last one out of Michigan please turn off the lights”. I fear we are on the same road again.
As a side, being from the west side (of Michigan), I really like Hoogendyk and think he would do a good job, but you can’t get Detroiters to vote for a west sider. Detroiters think they are better than everyone else in the state. But we know the truth over here. As the saying goes for Grand Rapidians, “The west side is the best side”.
check your facts–dick devos & dan devos are completely different people. dan owns the arena football team. dick has absolutely nothing to do with it.
A minor point of clarification:
Stone, for being so Grand Rapids Arena Football savy, one would think that you would know that Dick DeVos is not “Arena Football DeVos.” That would be his brother. Check in to it a little bit and then reconsider the things you have to say about the Republican front runner.
Oh, and I agree, the west side is the best side!
Ted Nugent, like many like him, swear up and down that he is not a racist, and then spouts a bunch of racist statements like these in the very next statement.
No, I don’t think a “Motor City Madman” campaign will get very far.
Oops sorry, oversight on my part. My most humble apologies.
[...] AOL: This isn’t the first time he’s talked about this. Back in 2005, there was some talk, but no action. So don’t hold your breath, or get too excited if you’re a Nugent fan. [...]
