• They expect hikes moderate in 2012

The positive result is due to the good performance of sectors such as manufacturing and construction

Mexico City (FEB/14/2012)-industrial production in Mexico increased 3.8% in real terms in 2011 over that of the previous year, when it advanced 6.1 per cent, reported the National Institute of statistics and geography (Inegi).  

This result, explains, was due to the performance in three of the four sectors that integrate, where electricity, water and gas pipeline to the final consumer supply grew 5.5%, manufacturing industries 5.1% and construction in 4.8%, while mining fell 2.3 per cent.  

In December of last year, the industrial activity registered a variation of 2.8% compared to same month of 2010 and with a moderation in the pace over the progress of 3.3 per cent per annum in the previous November.

By economic sector, manufacturing production grew 3.7%, construction 3.6% and the electricity, water and gas pipeline to the final consumer supply was greater in 2.5%, while mining fell 1.3% in December.

“We hope that the industrial sector continue expanding at a rate that is moderate in 2012 and the performance of manufacturing will remain highly dependent on the evolution of his pair in United States”, said Alberto Ramos, of Goldman Sachs, in a note to its clients.
