Mexican remittances rose 6.8% during 2011

Mexico City (FEB/01/2012)-remittances by Mexicans living abroad, mainly United States, increased 6.8% during 2011, according to figures from the Mexico bank disclosed Wednesday.
Currency amount reached Mexico during 2011 added 22 thousand 731 million dollars against 21 thousand 271 during 2010, which meant an increase of 460 million dollars, according to statistics of the institution.
In December, remittances totaled mil 766.31 million dollars, against 1,706.60 million in the same month of 2010, which meant an increase of 3.50%.
Remittances, third source of exchange of Mexico after oil exports and tourism, stabilized in 2010 with a slight increase of 0.12% after two years of heavy falls.
Shipments of Mexicans residing in United States (around 12 million people, undocumented half) had decreased since 2008, broke out when the U.S. financial crisis, which struck heavily to employment in that country.
