• The meeting of Presidents receives to Suriname and St Lucia as special guests

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, host of the Summit, read the statement in which it expressed its rejection of all kinds of interference by foreign countries

CARACAS, VENEZUELA (05/FEB/2012)-XI Summit of Presidents of the Bolivarian Alliance for the peoples of our America (ALBA) ended with the accession of Suriname and St Lucia as special guests and Haiti as an observer, reported the Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez.  

The leaders and heads of Government closed this Sunday meeting held in Miraflores Palace (House of Government of Venezuela), with a declaration for Argentina in their dispute over sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands with United Kingdom.  

Also approved a condemnation of the attack on the Syrian people and against foreign ‘interference’, estimating that the powers seek to impose by force to the Syrian people regime change based ‘ irregular groups backed by foreign powers’.  

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, host of the Summit, read the statement in which it expressed its rejection of all kinds of interference by foreign countries, and requested respect for the self-determination of peoples.  
“The Bolivia President, Evo Morales, proposed the creation of a Council of defence of ALBA, which develops a new military doctrine which is ‘ at the service of the people and not of the Empire”.  

“Morales questioned military events convened by United States in some Latin American countries where ‘ they indoctrinate them, the military, and counselling courses taught”.  

The political Council of the ALBA will undertake a study to present a report on the subject.  

On the other hand, President Chavez said that you remained in the hands of the political Council of the Agency the full process of incorporation of Suriname and St Lucia at dawn as full members.  

So far, the ALBA is composed of Venezuela, Cuba, Nicaragua, Ecuador, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Antigua and Barbuda.  

Suriname and St Lucia are efforts to also join Petrocaribe, which is an energy Alliance sponsored by Venezuela.  

The Summit of the ALBA adopted also a statement on Puerto Rico, free state associated with United States, which highlighted their cause is a matter of Latin America and forums such as the community of Latin American countries and Caribbean (Celac).  

During the plenary on Saturday, the rulers of ALBA agreed to advance the integration of the block with the creation of an “economic space” and a Fund of its regional bank reserves.
